29-May | 41 | Rode on I-54 east with a tailwind the whole way. Got to Liberal at noon even though we started an hour late. Had a rare lunch (pork ribs). Now, Liberal is the "Land of Oz" and featured the Dorthy House Museum. | Liberal
30-May | 51 | As nice as yesterday was, today was awful -- hot (95 degrees) and a head wind in our face the whole day -- give me Old Creek any time!! A virus has been moving through our group. So far it has only affected the guys (about 10 of them). | Dodge City
31-May | 88 | Headwinds! Headwinds! Headwinds! It rained last night, but stopped before we began riding. But it continued to look like it would be stormy all morning long. Passed the midpoint of the US. After the heat of previous days, it was nice to enjoy cooler temperatures -- only got to 69 today. Wheat fields everywhere. Flat land, so we can see forever. Each little town has its own grain elevators which we can see from miles away. Great Bend was more upscale than the other towns we passed -- lots of well manicured laws. | Great Bend
1-June | 65 | Perfect day temperaturewize, but still fighting the wind. More of the same (wheat fields and grain elevators). | McPherson
2-June | 64 | A big storm last night (thunder and lightning) ended before we started. The hindering winds continued. Seemed like the humidity was higher, too. The countryside seemed to be changing some. It was greener with more trees. The land wasn't so flat, so we could see further which was nice because it was more interesting. ...and tomorrow is a day off --- aaahhhh! | Abilene
3-June | 0 | Nice day off -- felt like a weekend! Visited the Eisenhower Library & Museum. Rained a lot today, but I didn't have to ride so who cares! | Abilene
4-June | 93 | Halfway point of tour. The weather was great with cloud cover and no rain. Also, the wind felt friendlier that in previous days. While there was some climbing in the morning, the route was flatter after we cross the Missouri River. On the outskirts of Topeka we got on a rode with a great bike path for 4 or 5 miles. | Topeka |
